2023’s Superyacht Interior Insight

By Frances Flannagan

What is a luxury superyacht without spellbinding interiors? 2023 saw a spectacle of new interiors being revealed to the industry, from complex custom designs to stylish and sophisticated refits. We take a look at five of the top interior insights from the past year, all of which boast unparalleled luxury.

SPARTA - Winch Design

Heesen’s 67m SPARTA features a highly complex and creative full-custom interior penned by Winch Design. Her unique brief asked for each zone to be themed in the rising elements: earth, water and air, reflecting the natural world in an elegant and stylish way whilst featuring cohesion across all guest areas.

‘Sparta needed to be a floating home on the ocean,’ commented Joost Roes, SPARTA’s lead interior designer. ‘That vision helped achieve this amazing project.’

The earth theme can be seen in the main deck salon’s chairs being upholstered in palm leaves and a meticulously crafted ancient oak trunk coffee table. The VIP cabins are marine-themed, with a stunning tramazite installation above the beds, and the lower deck spa is finished with natural materials that showcase the water element at its finest. The air element graces the upper deck, with the master suite aft shaded sky blue with mother-of-pearl inlays reflecting the sun.

The brief requested playfulness, activities and surprise, which was certainly met in SPARTA’s design. Each deck is completely unique yet they all boast unmatched luxury and creativity, paying homage to the natural elements.

WANDERLUST - Vain Interiors

85m WANDERLUST was delivered in 2022 by Silveryachts, featuring an opulent interior by Vain Interiors. Privacy glazing is implemented throughout, encircling the main deck and loft on the upper deck with a striking interactive ceiling. Large windows are implemented throughout, connecting those onboard with their surroundings.

She boasts stand-out design features such as a high-ceiling sky lounge that allows guests to watch and enjoy the marine wildlife by taking in the mesmerising dolphin cam in the bow.

WANDERLUST’s main deck features an outdoor cinema fitted with sound, media and light systems for disco nights, showing her to be an exceptional entertainment vessel. She offers a vast amount of space onboard, allowing for sumptuous seating for entertainment and relaxation alike.

Project AME - Hot Lab

Bilgin Yachts revealed the interiors of its 49.95m vessel Project AME this year, showcasing the fusion of design prowess and luxury. Her interior harmoniously blends elegance with modern design sensibilities, resulting in her being a timeless vessel.

She is meticulously designed, whilst also being welcoming, with smooth surfaces and natural colours pervading the mood board. The contrast between sophisticated colours such as sand and grey and rich textures and reflective elements lend themselves to Project AME having a modern look, whilst encapsulating the feeling of a high-end product.

Project AME is truly an oasis of sophistication, with a range of materials and fabrics contributing to an awe-inspiring atmosphere. The blend of hand-crafted materials alongside innovative technology renders her a truly spectacular vessel.

ENTOURAGE - Burdifilek

ENTOURAGE is the second Amels 60 superyacht, delivered to her owner in early 2023. Her interiors are fully customised to the owner's wishes, with Canadian studio Burdifilek creating a luxurious and serene design.

The yacht transforms from day to night as the sun sets, allowing for the interiors to be a playground of timeless elegance, comfort and peacefulness with a monochromatic palette. The owner’s suite is located on the main deck, featuring a fold-down balcony, lounge area, two bathrooms and a neighbouring twin-bed guest suite.

The bridge and sun deck aft have both been extended at the request of the owner, a feature which has greatly benefitted Damen Yachting:

‘At the request of the Owner, we extended the Bridge and Sun Deck aft, which has impacted the use of these three decks in such a positive way that we decided to implement this change for all future builds,’ reveals Jan van Hogerwou, Damen Yachting’s Commercial Executive North America.

ENTOURAGE is an exceptional example of the extent to which Damen Yachting adapts to allow for the full-custom experience, making her an extraordinary and personalised vessel.

SOUNION II - Anoushka Hempel

Following an extensive interior refit, SOUNION II bears a classic Benetti exterior profile with a new and stylish interior. Anoushka Hempel’s design has a subtle Asian influence, with muted tones and striking black details, alongside beautiful furniture pieces such as Japanese screens and Louis Vuitton trunks.

Intricate design elements permeate the interiors, resulting in an atmosphere reminiscent of vintage cruises to faraway places.

‘SOUNION II is wonderfully unique. With her design, East meets West and I always enjoy playing with this cross-over of cultures, history and design. You have the traditional classical elements of truly beautiful Italian style folded in with the discipline of an Asian influence. The symbiosis of both and the balance between the two make SOUNION II truly magical’, commented Anouska Hempel, Designer of SOUNION II.

She boasts tranquillity and relaxation with a recurring bird motif throughout, the Owner considering this as a poetic touch to the vessel. Ten guests can be accommodated in four cabins, all of which include an ensuite and with the master stateroom benefitting from direct access to an aft exterior lounge.

SOUNION II is a beautiful example of an extensive refit, transforming a yacht into a vibrant and special space for those on board. Her uniqueness represents the pinnacle of superyacht interior design: unparalleled luxury, charm, and livability.
