'Just Right': Nordhavn Unveils New 112ft Concept

By Sophia Spanton

Nordhavn has revealed the very first details of a brand new superyacht concept, the 34.1m Nordhavn 112. Designed in-house by Nordhavn’s design team, this new motor yacht is the perfect size for every adventure.

The new Nordhavn 112 is not too small, allowing for comfortable living and entertaining spaces, and not too big, making for easy manoeuvrability in tight marinas and anchorages. With its 'just right' size of 112ft/34.1m, the Nordhavn 112 strikes the perfect balance between spaciousness and manoeuvrability, making it the ideal yacht for exploring new destinations and embarking on unforgettable adventures.

Nordhavn Chief of Design, Jeff Leishman, got the concept for this yacht after noticing a significant contrast between the 36.6m Nordhavn 120 and her smaller sistership, the 29.3m Nordhavn 96, when berthed next to one another. ‘It was evident that we needed something in the middle’, he explained. The Nordhavn 112 offers the advantages of owning a boat that is neither too large nor too little, making it ideal for both cruising and docking in various locations. Additionally, her size allows for a more intimate and personalised experience for guests, as well as easier maintenance and operation for the crew.

Some advantages that come with a yacht of Nordhavn 112's size? Flexibility, manoeuvrability, intimacy and maintenance.

A superyacht that is not too big or too small offers the flexibility to navigate a variety of waterways, including narrow channels and shallow areas. This means that you can explore more secluded destinations and get closer to the shore, enhancing your overall yachting experience. She is easier to handle and manoeuvre, making it more accessible to owners who may not have extensive boating experience or a large crew. This allows for more independence and freedom to go wherever guests desire without relying heavily on full crew to operate.

This yacht size can also create a more intimate and personalised experience. The smaller size allows for closer interactions and a stronger sense of togetherness, fostering a more enjoyable and memorable experience for everyone onboard. Owning a yacht is a significant investment, and maintenance can be a major consideration. A superyacht of the Nordhavn 112’s size, typically requires less maintenance and upkeep compared to larger vessels. Allowing guests to solely focus more on enjoying their time on the water. Her ideal size also holds the capacity to carry enough fuel for transoceanic voyages.

Leishman noted that he concentrated on establishing outdoor lounging places and mimicking balcony-like deck spaces typically found on larger superyachts by installing folding bulwarks. A big spa tub on the flybridge and a spectacular lounge room forward of the pilothouse are also planned. There will be space on the aft deck behind the pilot house for up to a 26ft/7.9m tender, as well as a small inflatable and jet skis. She'll also be fitted with a gym and a beach-style swim step. Nordhavn 112 will be built out of steel, and will offer four queen guest rooms and one spacious owners' bedroom, as well as space for up to six crew members and a total of ten heads.

Leishman and the Nordhavn design team are now looking for a factory to build the N112, with a focus on European yards that specialise in steel building. The first hull will be built on order.
