Unparalleled Luxury and Boundless Exploration: Damen Yachting Unveils the Xplorer 80

By Frances Flannagan

On the 21st of March at the Palm Beach International Boat Show, Damen Yachting announced the introduction of the new Xplorer 80: the latest design to join its luxury expedition yachts range previously known as SeaXplorer. This concept is built on the Dutch yard’s proven technical platform, whilst offering limitless opportunities for customisation.

Joining the Xplorer 60 and Xplorer 105, Damen Yachting has announced the latest addition of the Xplorer 80: the follow up to the original SeaXplorer 77. This updated, next generation 80 metre design is an exciting new addition to the Dutch yard’s continuously evolving portfolio.

Rose Damen, Managing Director Damen Yachting, commented: ‘By introducing the Xplorer 80, we have further established our ability to create a perfect crossover superyacht. She combines luxury, expedition, capability, high-spec shipbuilding and everything in between.’

Azure Yacht Design & Naval Architecture has developed the exterior lines, retaining the award-winning SeaXplorer DNA whilst modernising and refining the overall look. The Xplorer 80 still features the signature bow, Observation Lounge, enclosed wheelhouse and Crow’s nest, now with more elegant and luxurious elements.

Damen has partnered with Harrison Eidsgaard for the interior concepts, with the aim to make a design suited to long-term and luxurious living. In keeping with the London-based studio’s quality and meticulous attention to detail, the team has developed a Manhattan loft-inspired space, with refined details, intelligent storage and a warm atmosphere throughout.

This concept design has been formulated with customisation in mind, as superyacht Owners would expect from an 80 metre yacht, drawing upon Damen’s proven and standardised technical platforms to offer a array of configuration options to fit every single yachting lifestyle.

Enrique Tintore, Design Manager of the Xplorer commented: ‘The way the Xplorer has been designed allows for a high level of flexibility to suit any extreme environment or refined landscape. If a helicopter isn’t essential for you, we’ve got many other options for that space. Need a conference room or a seventh guest cabin? Or a separate gym and a high-spec laboratory? We can make that happen.’

There are a diverse range of different offerings for future Owners, spanning hidden heli-hangars, gym and wellness setups or fully equipped diving centres for keen underwater explorers. Whatever your preferences, the options are endless.

The configuration options is not the only flexible aspect of this yacht; Damen has partnered with a number of design firms to provide unique alternatives centred around the same base platform. Alternative exterior designs have been penned by Espen Oeino and Harrison Eidsgaard whilst Reymond Langton and Winch Design have provided other interior concepts.

Alongside the reveal of the Xplorer 80, Damen Yachting has also introduced their updated branding for their luxury explorer range.

Sarah Flavell, Marketing Manager at Damen Yachting, commented: ‘We wanted to make the original SeaXplorer branding more relevant for today’s and tomorrow’s luxury yet adventurous yachting needs… The result is that the Xplorer 80 absolutely embodies the brand values associated with the Xplorer range bringing extensive capability, unrivalled autonomy and above all luxury space and lifestyle to the most extreme corners of the globe.’

The crux of the Xplorer brand is creating a world of infinite adventures, seeing the harmonious combination of superyachts and expedition vessels: a unique crossover of unparalleled luxury and boundless exploration.

The Xplorer brand, and the Xplorer 80 in particular, are the perfect superyachts for those looking to forge their own path, avoiding the ordinary, and exploring some of the most remote locations on the planet, creating the experiences of a lifetime within unparalleled luxury and comfort.
