70m Project Thunderball: The Brand New Collaboration Between CRN and Vripack

By Frances Flannagan

Project Thunderball, a 70m motor yacht, is a unique and exceptional creation by CRN that has just been revealed. She is a fully customised yacht, designed in-house by Vripack, taking shape alongside three other full-custom projects at the Ancona yard, ranging from 67 to 85 metres.

Project Thunderball is a harmonious collaboration of three companies: CRN shipyard providing the design-and-build quality, Vripack developing the external lines and naval architecture, and Nauta Design studio lending their creativity to the interior design and outdoor furniture. She is a 70m steel and aluminium superyacht, completely bespoke and handcrafted from her design to her engineering.

Her sale was completed in August 2022 by Y.CO, who continue to support the Owner throughout the construction stage, the technical checks, and within the project management. The Owner’s vision is fully reflected in her design, with a classic, timeless line mirroring the requirements for a pleasure ship suited to long, luxurious cruises.

She has an elongated bow, a low profile and svelte lines like a sailboat, reflecting the Owner’s passion as a sailor, which has also been catered for as a sailboat is to be delivered alongside the mother yacht. She spans five decks with a beam of 11 metres, able to accommodate up to 12 guests and fifteen crew members. Her entire design has been devised for comfortable cruising and convenient manoeuvring: the perfect pleasure vessel for the Owner and guests to enjoy.

Her interior design is a masterpiece, expressing the culture of the sea with a sophisticated collection of details. Heritage is blended with the contemporary, and a refined reinterpretation of these qualities has resulted in a new state of the art in yachting being defined.

‘Equally cutting-edge naval architecture supports the outside aesthetic, and places this design atop our sizeable portfolio of world-travelling ships, which have sailed the ocean since 1961. Our comprehensive approach gave the owner insight into the layouts, functions, and performances at every design meeting, enabling quick, thoughtful, and deliberate decision-making.’, commented Marnix J. Hoekstra, Co-Creative Director, Vripack.

Alongside being a stunning design, Project Thunderball continues the shipyard’s sustainability commitment by increasing energy efficiency and decreasing fuel consumption through the use of a peak shaving system.

She is being built alongside a 67m, a 72m and an 85m yacht, highlighting CRN’s position as a leading shipyard in the industry. Notably, the shipyard is in the process of building the first all-aluminium Custom Line Navetta 50, the all-aluminium Pershing 140 #4, and the all-aluminium Riva Superyacht Division 54m. Project Thunderball is a spectacular addition to the 26 other projects underway at the Superyacht Yard in Ancona, and we at Superyachts.com cannot wait to follow future updates of her development.
