Columbus Yachts Unveil New Classic 50 Superyacht

By George Bains

Columbus Yachts have unveiled the Columbus Classic 50, its brand-new displacement superyacht from the Columbus Classic series. The 50-metre superyacht features a steel hull and aluminium superstructure, and at under 500 GT she offers the elegance of the Classic series in a smaller category.

The elegant exterior profile of the Columbus Classic 50 was penned by the creative design team at Hydro Tec. Sergio Cutolo, the studio’s founder, commented: “Her timeless exterior lines remind those of the bigger sisters of the Columbus Classic range, including the renowned 80-metre motoryacht ‘Dragon’ delivered in 2019.”

Dragon was the largest yacht built by Columbus upon her delivery, and the same exquisite features which won her profound acclaim can also be noticed on the Classic 50. There have been some innovative incorporations into the design of Classic 50 to make her appealing to modern superyacht owners. These include large windows which connect the yacht with the outdoor environment, while the flared and slender bow shape reduces drag to increase both seaworthiness and manoeuvrability.

The great success of the Columbus Classic 50 is in its ability to transfer all the same comfort, style and amenities of the larger superyachts from her range into a smaller category. The superyacht boasts extensive outdoor deck spaces which are spread over three levels, with glorious guest spaces which include a lounge, bar, dining area, swimming pool and large sunbathing areas.

The superyacht can be configured to suit the preferences of her owner, and her guest accommodation consists of four large guest cabins, a VIP cabin and an Owner’s cabin to provide plenty of room for family and friends. Guests will benefit from two lounges on the main deck and upper deck respectively, which offer different combinations for the arrangement of guests’ living areas. A large beach club located on the stern has been created with a cantilevered hydraulic platform, and there is a tender garage stored below deck.

The Columbus Classic 50 provides a great alternative to the larger superyachts in the Classic Line, which comprise of an 80m, 100m and 120m superyacht. Columbus Yachts, a brand of the Palumbo Group established in 2008, shows that it continues to adapt and innovate with its superyacht designs with a keen eye on market trends and the wishes of owners in an ever-evolving marketplace.
