Projects Aplenty: Nauta Design’s Action-Packed Start to the Summer Season

By Frances Flannagan

Nauta Design has announced its full schedule of five new-build superyacht projects: a grand start to this year’s summer season. All projects are currently under construction, ranging from 44m to more than 130m.

Five spectacular new superyacht projects are currently in construction at Milan-based design studio Nauta Design including a 130m+ custom project, MOONFLOWER 72, Project THUNDERBALL, FLEXPLORER 146 and 44m Project MOONLIGHT.

The 130m+ custom project has been in build in Northern Europe since 2020. Expected to be utterly breathtaking, the new build features 2,000 square metres of luxury interiors and 1,000 square metres of exterior social spaces, all carefully designed by Nauta. ‘At the moment we can say very little about this particular project beyond that it is in excess of 9000 GT and construction is already at an advanced stage' , the studio commented.

Despite little revealed about Nauta's latest custom project, more details have been released about the eye-catching MOONFLOWER 72. She is a 72m steel and aluminium motor yacht built by Wider with Nauta penning the exterior and interior design, which totals an impressive 1,153 square metres. With her metalwork almost complete and delivery scheduled for 2025, the exterior styling of this 72m perfectly reflects Nauta’s trademark preference for clean, uncluttered design.

‘Moonflower’s design is pure Nauta,’ says Mario Pedol, Founder and Lead Designer of Nauta Design. ‘Modern yet timeless, she has the onboard liveability and maximum exposure to the marine environment that characterises all Nauta projects’.

Coming close to MOONFLOWER’S size, Project THUNDERBALL is a 70m custom project in build at CRN with exterior design by Vripack and 440 square metres of bespoke interiors by Nauta, due for delivery in 2026. THUNDERBALL is an exciting project by CRN and Nauta; she is the first collaboration between the two companies that has reached the construction stage.

‘The owner’s brief was for a superyacht of timeless beauty, elegant and sophisticated in every detail,’ says Guido Valtorta, Lead Architect at Nauta. ‘He was insistent that it had to be a true yacht and not just a floating palace, so she features details typical of traditional yacht design such as rounded edges for the interior furniture with no sharp corners, blending with a refined contemporary look.’

Another current new build for the design studio is the FLEXPLORER 146, a 44.5m yacht currently under construction at Cantiere delle Marche. She features exterior lines by Hydro Tec and 528 square metres of interior and exterior social spaces by Nauta. Her interior is due to be timeless and sophisticated when complected: another reflection of Nauta’s preference for clean understated design with everyday functionality. She is set to be delivered next year.

The spectacular nature of Nauta’s interior design is yet again showcased as Conrad Yachts selected the Italian studio to design the vast 220 square metre space on board the third hull in its semi-custom 44m series, entitled Project MOONLIGHT. With exterior design by Reymond Langton, she is set to be an exciting new project for the industry's fleet. Conrad Yachts has a long-standing relationship with Nauta, and the opportunity has arisen to create a bespoke design that incorporates the Owner’s vision, experience and understanding of family life on board. Valtorta commented, ‘the Owners have a very clear objective of creating an interior design that is luxurious and also practical in terms of safety, functionality and maintenance at sea.’

‘It’s certainly the case that we have a lot of irons in the fire,’ says Martino Majno, Sales & Project Manager at Nauta. ‘The fun bit is that they are all very different projects that draw on our expertise and experience as both exterior and interior designers,' and we for one are looking forward to the Nauta's exciting new builds to hit the water over the coming years.
